| What To Do With Old Computer |
|
There are other options besides putting an old computer at the curb. For instance, many small computer centers will accept your old computer. Some of these shops will offer a trade-in service. This means they will take your system in trade for something they offer, such as a service or perhaps an accessory. In either case, the computer is off your hands.
Another option is to offer your older computer that is in usable condition to someone who doesn’t have a computer. This could also be a family who would benefit from having a second computer, especially with school-aged kids in the house.
Some people choose to give their old computer to their religious organization. These organizations may use the computer for their purposes or they may pass it onto someone who will benefit from it. Also, girl scout or boy scout troops may be able to use a computer for their recordkeeping, which is a good use for an older computer. There are organizations that take in older computers, refurbish them, and give them to underprivileged kids. Check your local neighborhood and see what is around.
Whatever you decide to do with your computer, be sure your personal information is cleaned off the hard drive. Just deleting files doesn’t remove them completely and they can be retrieved. It is advisable to write zeros to the hard drive to completely erase the data. |
